SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER VACANCY
The Allen Bowden School Board position #2 is currently vacant. The School Board welcomes anyone that might be interested in serving in this capacity for the school district. IF interested please fill out the APPLICATION listed below.
Christy Bunch, whom previously served on the School Board for 7 years, chose not to run in the recent Board election. We THANK her for the LEADERSHIP that she demonstrated while serving on the School Board. She led by example through good attendance and active participation.
The School Board will be taking applications and then appointing a Board Member for Board position #2 to finish out 2014. That person would then need to file in December, 2014 for that Board position and be on the ballot for the next Board election in February, 2015. (IF the person would like to continue serving as a Board member)
WINTER has arrived! ÂÂÂ PLEASE READ the following procedures for SCHOOL CLOSINGS. The difficulty of the decision to delay or cancel school is affected by the timing of the storm and the actual storm impact in our area. (The weathermen have a tough job in predicting the impact of winter storms all over the state) The toughest decision is whether to close school early when a storm comes in during school hours. With many parents working, sending children home early to a locked or unsupervised setting is not desirable if we can avoid it. WE will make every effort to notify as many parents as we can in such an event, so please make sure that we have current work numbers where we can get hold of you (IF needed).
In the event we cancel or delay school we will notify the Tulsa Television stations (2, 6, 8, & 23). IF we determine by 6:15 a.m. that it appears safe for the buses to run, we will try to have school, because many of you depend on school being open.
HOWEVER, PARENTS SHOULD ALWAYS MAKE THEIR OWN PERSONAL DECISIONS BASED ON THEIR CIRCUMSTANCES AND THEIR PERCEPTIONS OF THE SAFETY OF THEIR CHILDREN BEING ON THE ROADS.
If YOU do NOT feel comfortable with your children being out in the weather or riding the bus, KEEP them HOME. They will NOT be punished with an unexcused absence; we should always err on the side of safety as schoolwork can be made up.
A reminder: Allen Bowden Schools has partnered with a rapid communication system called SCHOOL REACH. This system will deliver emergency messages to parents individually by the communication method(s) of your personal choosing. Should schools need to close early due to weather, for example, this system would notify you by your choice of home phone, cell phone, and/or text. In addition, we can use this to keep you up with important school wide information or changes relating to groups in which your child participates. So we will use SCHOOLREACH to inform our students/parents of a school closing due to Bad Weather.
According to the student handbook, students should not be on school campus before 7:55 a.m. or after 3:10 p.m. as no supervision will be provided before or after school hours. The only exceptions will be school-sponsored activities.
To protect the safety of our students at Allen Bowden School, it is the policy of the Allen Bowden Board of Education that any students arriving on campus before 7:55 a.m. and/or left after 3:10 p.m. must go to the PAWS Program so they will be supervised. Charges incurred at the Latchkey Program will be the responsibility of the parent. Office staff will NOT be available to watch your child.
The fees for morning PAWS are as follows: $10.00 per Month. The fees include breakfast for your child. PAWS is located in the West end of the Administration building, and the hours of operation are from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. each morning that school is in session. At 8:00 a.m., students are taken to the cafeteria for breakfast and dismissed from there with other students.
Thank you for your cooperation!
